Rewind

Feed it speech. It turns the tape around — not the letters, the sound — and writes what reversed speech tends to say.

How reverse speech is spelled

Playing a recording backwards does not reverse the alphabet. It reverses the stream of phones — the vowels, bursts, and fricatives your mouth actually made — so the last sound of the last word is heard first.

Diphthongs flip inside themselves: oh becomes a waw onset, eye becomes yah. Breath-like /h/ almost disappears. Clusters that English never allows at the start of a word (a leading ng, a dl) survive, which is why reverse speech sounds alien even when you can almost mouth it.

Speech mode is that transcription. Letters mode is the naive character palindrome, kept so you can hear the difference. Play reverse tries to reverse a spoken take of the original; if that is not available, it reads the transcription aloud.
